How to Fix a Car Window That Won’t Roll Up

Happy Pug

Whoever said keeping a vehicle in mint condition was easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy was obviously not right. From punctured tires to keeping an eye on the fuel, radiator heat-ups to burnt gas kits, there are a lot of things to be aware of when you own a vehicle.

However, you need not worry if it’s just your car window that’s acting up.

All You Need to Know About a Stuck Electric Car Window

Causes

  • The window regulator and cable have detached themselves from each other.
  • Dirt, grime, or ice piling up in the window frame.
  • The window might be out of its track.
  • The window motor has blown up.
  • The child safety lock is on.

Solutions

  • Once you’ve turned on the ignition, press down your finger on the button that rolls the window and repeatedly slam the car door. The window should be able to roll down or climb up, but beware that this is a temporary fix.
  • If the first trick doesn’t work, it’s time to locate where your door panel might be and then bump it with a blunt object. Your fist works too, but don’t injure yourself.
  • Check if the child’s safety lock is switched off.
  • If the window makes a whirring sound when the button is depressed, call in an expert. Make them press the button while you sandwich the window between your palms and try to lift it up to set it back right on track.

Is it still refusing to budge? Don’t worry, and have your car’s power window repaired by the professionals.

The original manual windows aren’t difficult to work with, so let’s have a look at what could be causing the problem.

Stuck Manual Car Window

Causes

  • Stripped gears in the crank.
  • The regulator has malfunctioned.
  • The grease that lubricates the regulator has dried up, causing friction.

Solution

  • Replacing the crank might fix the problem because the teeth inside it must’ve been stripped.
  • Make sure to fix the window back in the frame if it has popped out. The sandwich technique works well.
  • Re-grease the regulator and try rolling the window.
